Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage can aid the mother to co-ordinate breathing, promote relaxation and have confidence in her own bodys abilities. This will in turn promote bonding with her baby. From the beginning of pregnancy onwards, rising levels of hormones reduce the density of connective tissue, cartilage and ligaments. These changes produce a greater degree of mobility and flexibility in the joints. During the second half however, this joint mobility may be reduced which can lead to increased fluid retention, particularly around the hands and feet. If this tension becomes too much, some mothers can also develop carpel tunnel syndrome which compresses the nerve in the wrist. In late pregnancy with the increased weight around the abdomen, it can cause discomfort in this area, buttocks and lower back.

Pregnancy massage is a combination of Swedish and Shiatsu techniques; slow and gliding with organic grapeseed oil. This treatment can cover the whole body, including the abdomen but can be modified to suit the client.
